Our Town

We thank God for our town of Royal Wootton Bassett - its people and the warm friendships we enjoy; its shops; its businesses; its schools; its churches; its amenities; its history and architecture and the beautiful countryside which surrounds us.

We will change the banner photo on this page regularly to depict our town and its life throughout the seasons and as it celebrates big occasions, both national and local - enjoy!

Our photo above shows the Good Friday Service by the Town Hall. Christians in the Town had walked silently behind the Cross from the Catholic Church as a reminder of Christ's sacrifice for us all on Good Friday.

The Photo Gallery below displays those images we have already shared above.

Our worship services are sometimes accompanied by pre-recorded hymns and songs.

We have a number of rooms for hire - details and a photo gallery are below.

The Sanctuary

This can be hired and can accommodate up to 200 people and is accessible to wheelchair users.

Hillside Hall

The hall can accommodate up to 100 people for meetings, children's parties, music and dance rehearsals etc.. Tables and chairs are available and the hall has a serving hatch to a kitchen. Please note that the maximum that can be accommodated in the Sanctuary and Hillside Hall is 200. The hall is accessible to wheelchair users.

The Wesley Room

This is a smaller meeting room on the first floor, catering for a maximum of 20 people, but not suitable for wheelchairs.

THE ANNEXE

Situated adjacent to the main church building, but not connected to it, this is a small but bright and airy meeting room catering for a maximum of 10 people. It is ideal for music lessons as it contains an electronic piano. Toilet facilities are available in the main church building. Access is up 4 steps so this room is not suitable for wheelchair users.

General

There are 3 toilets on the ground floor, one of which is accessible to wheelchair users.

The kitchen can also be hired at an additional cost and is accessible to wheelchair users. There are crockery and cutlery, an oven, a fridge and kettles.

We are happy to consider 'one-off' or regular bookings.

It is a condition of all hires that you are able to produce a valid certificate of insurance for personal liability (this is normally contained within buildings or contents insurance policy).

If you plan to hold an event at which children and/or vulnerable adults may be present, then additional requirements may apply.

You must do nothing which is contrary to the doctrines and beliefs of the Methodist Church UK.

Flower Arranging Classes

A flower-arranging group has been set up in conjunction with the church flower rota. This is to give people the opportunity to learn the basics of flower-arranging so they can feel confident making their own displays and possibly join the flower rota at a later stage.

People who are already on the rota also get a chance to improve their skills and the group can also be called upon to decorate the church for special occasions such as Harvest and Easter.

The group meets periodically, usually on Saturdays - events are advertised in the News and Events (see What's On) sections of this website and on our Facebook page. Hints and tips are given and arrangements made that are suitable for your own home or for church.

Everyone is welcome to join in, providing their own greenery or flowers, or just to watch and learn. Tuition is normally given free, but there may be a small charge for "mechanics" such as oasis or pots.

If you would like further information please email us or contact Mary Turner or Jan Chambers.

The photo above shows one of the beautiful displays prepared by the team.

Tuesday Morning Pop-In

Our church is open every Tuesday morning when you will be able to enjoy a good chat over a cup of tea or coffee (we use Fair Trade products) and a delicious lunch. There is always the opportunity for prayer and a listening ear if needed.

During the colder winter months of 2023/24 we extended our times to 10.00am - 12.30pm to incorporate a "warm space" (see below). We have now extended this further to 1:00pm, with new potatoes, ham or quiche, and salad, followed by an equally delicious dessert, now available from 12:00. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available from 10.00am.

In the main body of the church there are generally several ongoing activities. There is the opportunity to knit or crotchet squares for blankets as well as hats, gloves and scarves. We knit blankets for Brighter Futures Blanketeers (GWH), hats and gloves for the Seaman's Mission & for the people of Ukraine. All these activities take place in a warm safe environment.

We often celebrate national events, such as the King's Coronation, and have enjoyed Easter Egg Hunts and Cream Teas. Longleaze Pre-School have visited us several times and enchanted us with their singing.

Monies donated, after covering costs, go to local community groups and church funds.

For a full list of local "warm spaces" you can enter your postcode here.

Pop-in is all about developing warm friendships; good company; the opportunity to talk and laugh and much much more.

The photo above was taken at Pop In's Christmas Party - everyone had a great time. Thank you so much Bev and your hard working team for helping to make Pop In the success it is - a great blessing to many. More photos are in the Gallery below.

Please join us on a Tuesday morning - you can be sure of a very warm welcome.
